You probably don’t need to be told Santa Monica is beautiful in the summer. During the warmer months of the year, people from across the globe flock here to enjoy the sunny California weather.
This is of course a wonderful way to experience the area. However, many don’t realize that Santa Monica also has plenty to offer in late fall and winter. This is particularly worth keeping in mind if you like to enjoy a little bit of summer all year long.
Why? As you’ll see, Santa Monica is a unique place, striking the right balance of seasons, even in November.
Why You Should Visit Santa Monica in Autumn and Winter
Again, plenty of people visit Santa Monica during spring and summer to spend their days lounging on our gorgeous beach. Many former visitors miss that experience when the colder weather arrives, wishing they could squeeze a beach day or two into November.
In most places, that’s not possible. Santa Monica, however, isn’t like most places. It’s rare for temperatures around here to drop below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. That means you can enjoy a relaxing day sunning yourself on the beach regardless of the season. That’s obviously ideal for someone who misses the warm comforts of summer.
However, even if you do wish you could spend a little more time at the beach during fall and winter, you might also want to participate in more seasonally-appropriate activities.
This is another reason to visit Santa Monica this time of year. During the holiday season, you can stop by Ice at Santa Monica. Located at the corner of Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue, this ice skating rink allows you to have the unique experience of enjoying a traditionally winter weather activity in a fairly warm climate.
That’s not all the area has to offer! There’s plenty more to do in Santa Monica during the fall and winter months. If you’re looking to enjoy some great food, Santa Monica is home to numerous restaurants. We’d be glad to make recommendations if you’d like. That said, you might also want to pick up some groceries while you’re here. Luckily, in Santa Monica, what would otherwise be an errand is in fact a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Again, temperatures simply don’t get very low around here during any season. Because of this, our local farmers markets can stay open much later than many others. Pay one a visit to try delicious, locally-sourced foods.
Getting into the holiday spirit is also extremely easy in the Santa Monica area. Events and activities to participate in include tree lightings, menorah lightings, Santa Claus visits for the kids, and much more. New Year’s Eve is a big deal here as well, with events ranging from traditional parties to more unique experiences, such as magic shows. Of course, if you’re looking to get some holiday shopping done, Santa Monica offers plenty of opportunities.
The main point to keep in mind is that this part of Los Angeles isn’t just a spring and summer destination.
