Rodeo Drive has long held a reputation as being home to some of the most expensive, luxury stores in the world. It also happens to be a quick eight minute drive from Century Park Hotel LA. Rodeo Drive manages to attract thousands of tourists to the doorsteps of its more than 100 high fashion boutiques which line the famous street. From brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and more, Rodeo Drive is sure not to disappoint.
But perhaps the most notable of all of Rodeo Drive’s shops is that of the luxury men’s clothing brand, The House of Bijan, named after it’s previous owner and founder, Bijan Paczad. Bijan menswear has been famously donned by celebrities of all sorts – even presidents such as Barack Obama and Bill Clinton – all in search of the finest in “Wearable Art”, as the tagline so iconically reads. The House of Bijan operates on an exclusive, appointment-only basis, but fans of the legendary menswear brand still have plenty to see on their visit to what has been dubbed “the most expensive men’s clothing store in the world”.
The Legend of Bijan
The House of Bijan was founded in 1976 by then 36 year old Paczad. Having immigrated to Los Angeles in 1973, Paczad came with a legendary vision in mind and a passion for the world of couture fashion having previously worked for the Pink Panther Boutique in Tehran.
In a short amount of time, Paczad grew his brand into a renowned menswear boutique. He even crafted artful fragrances, the empty bottles of which now hang as part of a grand chandelier in the interior of the boutique. Needless to say, The House of Bijan has long since earned its place as a worthy occupant of the famed Rodeo Drive.
So why go?
The House of Bijan operates with a secretivity that adds to it’s exclusive appeal, which is why not everyone is freely allowed inside the 12-million dollar building — without an appointment that is. But not to worry! There is no barrier of entry when it comes to taking photographs next to Bijan’s iconic, custom yellow Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, which sits in a flashy display along Rodeo Drive, just outside of the boutique’s doors.
The lavish vehicle was created as a sort of collaboration between Paczad and the esteemed car company, custom fit to his own specifications. Every day, hundreds of tourists stop by Rodeo Drive for a simple photo of the iconic automobile.
Recent claim to fame
Got any politics junkies in your group? They might be intrigued to know that The House of Bijan was a favorite of Paul Manafort. As the former campaign chairman and chief strategist of the 2016 Trump campaign, he rose to fame in 2017 after he was arrested on various charges relating to money laundering and tax fraud.
Manafort’s outlandish style was well suited for the boutique, with its bright colors and flashy statement pieces. In fact, the purchase of one of those statement pieces via wire transfer at The House of Bijan on Rodeo Drive became a center piece of evidence at the beginning of his trial.
Make sure to put Rodeo Drive on your list of stops when planning your next visit to Los Angeles. Not only is it home to legendary brands like The House of Bijan, it also makes for the perfect insta-worthy snap next to your soon-to-be dream car. With the help of Century Park Hotel LA, you are already well on your way to the lavish vacation of your dreams.
