Christmas is almost always a magical day for those who celebrate it. However, it can be particularly magical in Los Angeles.
The following are just a few ways to enjoy the holiday in LA this year. If you’re not familiar with the city, but want to make the most of your Christmas here, consider these options:
The Best Ways to Spend Christmas in Los Angeles
Enjoy Some Ice Skating
LA may be relatively warm when compared to other cities, but that doesn’t mean you can’t participate in classic winter activities here. If you enjoy ice skating, stop by ICE in Santa Monica, or try Pershing Square’s Bai Holiday Ice Rink. Both are perfect ways to experience winter fun without the frigid temperatures.
Head to Universal Studios
Universal Studios is never fails to deliver as a fun destination for families and thrill-seekers alike. That said, a visit to Universal Studios may be most enjoyable on Christmas. The abundance of Grinch-themed rides and attractions makes it the perfect spot if you and your loved ones would like to escape into the world of Whoville this year.
Try Out Some Sand Sledding
Again, even though LA isn’t associated with winter weather, you can still take part in many winter weather activities here. You simply need to modify them.
For instance, it’s not uncommon for kids (and kids at heart) who live in the city to head to the local beaches to participate in sand sledding. While it may not be exactly the same as traditional sledding, the fact that you don’t need to get bundled up in layers upon layers of winter clothes makes it potentially even more enjoyable.
Enjoy the Holiday Lights
Like many cities, LA transforms in December, with numerous businesses and municipal organizations decorating their properties with stunning light displays. However, if you had a busy trip, you might not have taken the time to truly appreciate them. Now’s your chance. Stroll the city (our staff will gladly recommend places to walk if you’re not familiar with the area) and take it all in before the lights are packed away for the season. This is also your perfect chance to get some great shots for Instagram!
Enjoy a Kid-Friendly Christmas Show
Looking for more experiences your kids will love? Consider paying a visit to either Medieval Times or Pirate’s Dinner Adventure. Both of these destinations typically host Christmas shows. Of course, if you’re unable to get tickets this year, you can always plan on grabbing them early next year if you think you’ll be back.
Visit the Queen Mary
The Queen Mary is one of LA’s most popular attractions. On Christmas, it’s definitely worth a visit, as the grounds are transformed with a North Pole Village, ice skating rink, gingerbread houses, and much more!
Deciding how to spend Christmas can be difficult when you’re in a city you may not know very well. Luckily, LA boasts more than its fair share of fun Christmas Day activities. These are merely some of the more noteworthy.
